The Last Paper Crane
Theo Kim runs a failing independent bookstore in a neighborhood being devoured by luxury condos. He's stubborn, bitter, and still grieving a loss he won't talk about. Enter Clara Vance - the cheerful, relentlessly optimistic urban planner assigned to oversee his block's redevelopment. She's the enemy. She's also the only person who's noticed that every night, Theo folds one perfect paper crane and leaves it on the windowsill facing east. What she doesn't know: he's been folding them for three years, one for every day since his wife died. Clara is too bright for a man who's made a home in the dark. But she keeps showing up. And she keeps asking questions he doesn't want to answer.
